Acronymenmity

A scene in the movie "Transformers" pretty much sums up my enmity for acronyms.

Agent Simmons is showing Sam, Mikaela , the SecDef and others an alien robot that Sector 7 has kept frozen in the bowels of Hoover Dam for 80 years. "You've all had direct contact with the NBE s ," says Simmons. " NBEs ?" someone asks. "Non-Biological Extraterrestrials," sneers Simmons. "Try to keep up with the acronyms." Setting aside for a moment that NBE is an initialism, not an acronym, how could they "keep up" when Simmons never told them what it signified in the first place?
